Modern medicine
has generated many wonderful medications that work magic to help
the ill patient. However, these same medications can be dangerous
in some situations. Allergies, other medications and some medical
problems can make a safe medication into a dangerous one.
When contacting the office for assistance concerning a medication
refill or question, always have available a list of your current
medications and list of your allergies.
In addition, when you visit any physician’s office always
have available:
- A list of
your medications
- The dose
of each medication
- The prescribing
physician
- How you take
each medication (time of day and number of times a day)

Refills are best
obtained at the time of your appointment. Check your medications
before the appointment for the amount you have on hand,
the dose, frequency, and number of refills on the prescriptions
you have. Tell the medical assistant what you think you will need
at the time of the appointment.
If you order your prescriptions by mail, allow enough time
after we write the refills for you to mail and receive the refill.
Unfortunately, we are not able to mail or fax in your prescriptions
for you. If you need refills before the time for your appointment,
the medications can be refilled through our office. If mail-in prescriptions
are needed, allow enough time for the office to process the message
and write the prescriptions. If you get your prescriptions filled
at a local pharmacy, just call the pharmacy and request the refill.
If the prescription has expired, the pharmacy will call us and obtain
an updated one.
Due to the large volume of refill requests we receive, please allow
48 hours for us to fill you prescription. If you need a refill
on Friday, please call early in the day so that we have time to
take care of your request.
Pulmonary and
sleep patients often require certain medical equipment for their
on going care. Refill and renewal of these prescriptions will be
handled similar to medications.
Please Note:
- Routine refills
cannot be handled over the telephone at night or the weekends.
- Narcotics
will not be prescribed or refilled after hours or on the weekends.
- Sleeping
medications will not be prescribed or refilled after hours or
on the weekends.
- Refills
and renewal of prescription medication, oxygen, or sleep equipment
will be provided only when the patient is seen regularly by our
physicians (usually requiring regular visits).
