Pulmonary physicians dedicate their time to the evaluation and care of individuals with respiratory problems:

  • The evaluation of symptoms - such as cough, wheezing, shortness of breath, pain and others
  • The evaluation of abnormal chest x-rays
  • The evaluation and care of established respiratory diseases
Our office is well equipped to provide up to date services for our patients including:
  • Pulmonary function testing
  • Oximetry
Many chronic diseases benefit from the long term care of pulmonary physicians. Examples include asthma, bronchitis, chronic obstructive lung disease, emphysema, interstitial fibrosis, lung cancer, sarcoidosis, and others. At both Scottsdale hospitals we provide 24 hour per day coverage ensuring that our patients receive the personal attention they expect and deserve whenever hospital care is needed.

The specialty of sleep medicine has developed over the past fifteen years. The vast majority of sleep specialists began their careers as pulmonary specialists. As the most common severe problems of sleep are related to breathing during sleep, many pulmonary physicians have become sleep specialists. We are fortunate to have a member of our staff who has practiced sleep medicine for over thirty years. The specialty of sleep medicine deals with a variety of sleep problems.

They include:
  • Difficulty going to sleep or staying asleep
  • Sleeping at the wrong time
  • Snoring
  • Choking while asleep
  • Sleepiness during the day
  • Sleep apnea

Certain problems with sleep require testing to determine the cause. We are affiliated with the Scottsdale Sleep Center, a center accredited by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, and we perform the majority of our testing there. Test available through our office or center include:
  • Overnight oximetry
  • Overnight position monitoring
  • Actigraphy
  • Full night sleep testing
  • Testing for daytime sleepiness
Counseling for problems of sleep onset and maintenance is available. Equipment to correct sleep apnea such as CPAP (constant positive airway pressure) is an important part of the care for the patient with sleep apnea. We provide assessment of equipment needs for individuals with sleep apnea. For some insurance providers, we are able to provide equipment directly through our office.

Our physicians do not practice primary care and we strongly encourage our patients to have a physician to provide the services needed for primary care.
